Before the consultation
A horoscope (janma kundali) is calculated from three details: your date of birth, your time of birth and your place of birth. If you only know an approximate time, say so when you contact us.
It helps to write down the two or three questions that matter most to you, for example about work, relationships or a decision you are facing.
How the chart is prepared
The chart is calculated from the positions of the planets at the moment and place of your birth, taken from astronomical tables (an ephemeris). Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac.
The rising sign (lagna) changes roughly every two hours, which is why the time of birth matters. Divisional charts such as the navamsha (D9) and dashamsha (D10) are even more sensitive to the time.
During the consultation
The astrologer first reads the chart as a whole and then turns to your questions. A reading usually touches on:
- The signs, houses, planets and nakshatras of the chart
- The dasha period you are in now and the next ones
- Important transits
- Your own questions
If your time of birth is uncertain
The astrologer may compare a few possible birth times with the dates of known events in your life. This traditional technique is called birth-time rectification. The result is an estimate, and the astrologer will tell you how much it can be relied on.
What you take away
You leave with observations about patterns and timing and with practical points to think about. Interpretation follows the tradition; it does not fix outcomes, and it does not replace medical, legal or financial advice.
This guide explains a traditional discipline. It does not replace medical, legal, financial or engineering advice.
